[I] was inspired last year by a conversation about our favorite “weird” Black musicians and creatives and how it encouraged us to not only make art but *be* art. so I leaned into my love for scifi/fantasy and made a loosely narrative short journeying through 50 years of Afrofuturism, Afrosurrealism and Black self expression in media. We Wear The Mask
January 2020
All City Art Club and Initiatives of Change honored the incredible legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in a creative way this year. They invited children and youth to join WE WEAR THE MASK, a free art workshop led by Silly Genius, founder of @allcity.artclub. This was an opportunity to learn about global African mask cultures + take part in a live procession! They also explored the importance of #DrMartinLutherKing and continued movements for racial equity, healing and justice.
Richmond Urbanism Happy Hour

Wicked Virtues

For the first time @SillyGenius and @ptcarroll, the duo known as BlackBelt Jones, presented their first collection of works. Inspired by their love of anime, comics, skate culture, Kung Fu and so much more, this is the introduction to the world of BlackBelt Jones. The collection was a part of Gallery at 17’s November exhibit. The First Friday debut event was hosted by BlackBelt Jones and featured food crafted by Chef George. Photos by @_eyeofagiant
Richmond Night Market

Black Belt Jones (Silly Genius x PT Carroll) were invited as the featured artists for the monthly Richmond Night Market in the heart of Shock Bottom. The event features live music, art, and vendors local to the city. Complemented by the sounds of Billy Crystal Fingers, Black Belt Jones were able to showcase what All City Art Club is doing outside of the busy downtown area.
Richmond Mural Dedication Cookout

To commemorate the creation of the ‘RICHMOND’ Mural, All City Art Club hosted a dedication cookout in the center of Hull Street where there wasn’t much to see at first. Held at the intersection of Hull Street and Midlothian, it was easy to catch a whiff of Nomad’s Deli and Holistic Alayé’s food, the swarm of people wearing ‘RICHMOND’ tees and the mural itself. DILLA’S DELI
FEBRUARY 2019
An annual event highlighting the late producer/rapper James “J Dilla” Yancey, known for his mesmerizing samples. Frequently collaborating with Groups like De La Soul, Pharcyde, The Roots, and many more acts in the mid-1990s and early 2000s. Dilla is considered a musical genius and his influence is beyond measurable.
Since passing fans and Hiphop afficinados alike honor his legacy. Many cities have celebration, Richmond is no different. Folks gathered around to celebrate his legacy over his favorite food donuts. There was djing and art made by locals honoring his works.
MEET YOUR DOOM
OCTOBER 2018
Paying homage to Long Island native and rapper, MF Doom, multiple All City Art Club artists came together for an evening of art, hip-hop, and food prepared by Chef George. The intimate gallery style paired with hospitality and hip-hop created vibes only ACAC can offer. Open to the public, many were introduced not only to the artists but to MF Doom. Artists featured were Silly Genius, PT Carroll, Jay Bordeaux, and Narda. Music spun by DJ B-Rice and Hip Hop Henry.
